The Speculation

Let’s start with what I know. I know I won’t hit all the goals I set for myself on the front page of this site for 2026. The only other goal that I will achieve this year is having $50k invested. That’s a lot of money.

I started investing in this income portfolio in November of 2022. It took me two years and six months to get to a place where I was regularly earning $100 dollars a month in dividends. Less after taxes, but still…

It took me one year and three months to get to $200 dollars a month in dividends (and pay less taxes because I restructured). That is the power of compound interest, compound learning – or I should say learning how to save consistently, how to invest, and then executing – and luck. It was a lot of luck. I had a stable environment and exposure to new ideas. That is very lucky.

Now that I’m expecting about $220 a month in dividends, give or take, I am beginning to get a clearer picture of what I want and it is because of what I know. I want more luck, more stability, and I want more consistency. I have done a lot of little mini-experiments by leaving money invested in cryptocurrency, song royalties, and arranging my investments in all manor of configurations. After nearly 4 years, I still can’t beat the boring index funds. I knew the research was right but now I can feel it.

So, while I could potentially double the money I let sit in cryptocurrency, I know it won’t skyrocket exponentially. And even if it did, I know that if I take that money at the end of this year and reinvest it in this income portfolio that I will get closer to earning $300 dollars a month in steady income. I know that will compound and grow exponentially over time. And I know for me that’s better than waiting to see if those speculative investments might explode. Because they may not. But this portfolio can continue to grow consistently and give me more of what I want. I know that.
