The Margin

I barely did any surveys this past week, but I still earned over $100 dollars in beer money income. I said at the beginning that I’m looking for online, money-making opportunities and utilizing those opportunities to invest in a dividend portfolio to earn passive income. And though I’ve done this for less than a month, when the opportunities exist for reverse stock split arbitrage, they seem to bring in the most income for the least amount of work. I wouldn’t call it passive because I spent time setting up a few different systems to capitalize on these opportunities, but I would say it’s lazy income at the very least. It doesn’t scale well, though, so the dividend portfolio is still where my focus remains.

What I would like to do once I feel like I have maximized my ability to capture these arbitrage opportunities is continue doing surveys so that I earn even more. I’m not going to change my weekly goal because sometimes the ability to do arbitrage in this manner simply doesn’t present itself, but I want to try to motivate myself to continue doing the surveys on top of this new income source. I will admit that it’s tough to do surveys when I easily exceed my goal with 10 minutes of work, but the overarching goal has always been to get to $100 dollars of stable passive income from a dividend portfolio as quickly as possible.

So with that being said, I had the ability to earn even more from arbitrage this past week, but I didn’t have enough settled cash in my portfolio to make the trade. Because of that I went ahead and enabled margin on my account. Margin lets the portfolio owner borrow money from the brokerage. Of course, interest is charged, and if an account goes down significantly the brokerage can sell stocks in the portfolio and take the money to make up the loss.

I wasn’t planning to utilize margin to test additional strategies until I reached $3000 dollars invested, but in this case it would’ve helped and with almost zero risk. So I applied for a margin account and converted my current cash-only portfolio. From what I can tell margin is a great way to completely blow up an account so I will proceed with caution, but I look forward to learning yet another way to earn beer money income using this additional tool.
